Hockey season is finally upon us. With a couple games in hand we can see which teams are off to a hot start and which still need to find their footing. Which of these teams will make the playoffs? Which teams will fall off? Which teams will find some improvement.
Today, we take a look at that and predict the finishing record of every single team. We will be combining overtime losses and regulation losses into one number. Without further ado, here’s every NHL team’s record this season.
Arizona Coyotes: 31-51
The Coyotes have very little going their way. With the arena struggles, their deflated roster, and coaching issues, don’t expect this team to make much of a splash.
Anaheim Ducks: 41-41
I expect the Ducks to be better this year than they were last year. However, that doesn’t mean I expect them to compete at an elite level. They will probably hover around .500.
Boston Bruins: 47-35

They might not win the President’s Trophy or break records again this season, but there’s no doubt the Bruins will still be a very good team.
Buffalo Sabres: 44-38
The Sabres are heading in the right direction. I expect them to battle for a playoff spot this season, and they may even find their playoff drought come to an end.
Calgary Flames: 40-42
The Flames are not a bad team. They will still compete for a playoff spot this year. Don’t be surprised if they miss again though.
Carolina Hurricanes: 55-27
I expect Carolina to take home the President’s Trophy this year. This team is a contender through and through.
Chicago Blackhawks: 27-55
The Blackhawks gave it all up in order to draft Connor Bedard. One man can’t save an entire team however. This team is still bottom of the barrel.
Colorado Avalanche: 48-34
The Avalanche are stacked. They’ll be competing for the Central Division crown once again this year. Maybe even another deep playoff run.
Columbus Blue Jackets: 32-50
It’s to the point that I’m not entirely sure what Columbus needs to get better. Signing Patrick Laine and Johnny Gaudreau has not wielded results.
Dallas Stars: 50-32
If Jake Oettinger wasn’t enough, Jason Robertson and Jamie Benn are also on this team. I expect Dallas to win the Central this year.
Detroit Red Wings: 40-42
The Red Wings aren’t terrible, but that doesn’t mean they’re very good either. They’ll probably float around the .500 mark.
Edmonton Oilers: 51-31
I expect the Oilers to have another terrific regular season, and probably win the Pacific. I’m still unsure if they have what it takes to go deep in the playoffs though.
Florida Panthers: 44-38
The Panthers shocked the world last season. The real question is, does this team have what it takes to do it again? I’m not sure they do.
Los Angeles Kings: 49-33
The Kings have found themselves right where they want to be. However, goaltending is still a massive question for this team and may prevent them from going deep.
Minnesota Wild: 45-37
The Wild are in a weird spot of being good, but not good enough. They should compete for a wild card spot this year.
Montreal Canadiens: 31-51
The Canadiens do appear to finally be taking steps in the right direction. They have a long way to go through and I don’t expect much results this season.
Nashville Predators: 41-41
This team is desperately fighting off a rebuild. They’re not there yet, but they’ll keep slipping more and more each year. They might find a wild card spot, but I doubt it.
New Jersey Devils: 53-29
The Devils will compete for the President’s Trophy this season. I think they’ll fall slightly short, but that doesn’t stop this team from being good.
New York Islanders: 39-43
I don’t know where the Islanders go from here. They might just sputter about until they lose everything they have left.
New York Rangers: 46-36
It’s hard not to succeed with goaltending like Shesterkin. However, this team has some depth issues that need to be addressed.
Ottawa Senators: 42-40
The Senators are rapidly improving. However, there is just too much competition in the Atlantic division. They might miss the playoffs again this year.
Philadelphia Flyers: 31-50
The Flyers are a mess. They have some signs of life, but it certainly won’t show up this year.
Pittsburgh Penguins: 43-39
The Penguins are a sinking ship with no body coming to help. With Crosby in his twilight years, there may not be much hope.
San Jose Sharks: 24-58
The Sharks are in the running for the worst team in the league right now. With Erik Karlsson gone, it most likely just gets worse.
Seattle Kraken: 43-39
The Kraken had their coming out party last season. Now they’ll have to fight expectations. I expect them to compete for a wild card again.
St. Louis Blues: 33-49
Sorry Blues. There just doesn’t seem to be much hope anymore. At least you won that Cup, right?
Tampa Bay Lightning: 43-39
This team is TIRED. Three straight Cup finals will do that to a team. They still have a solid roster, and will most likely make the playoffs again. Salary cap trouble continues to creep up though.
Toronto Maple Leafs: 50-32
Toronto continues to actively find their missing puzzle piece and to their credit, they’re doing a pretty good job. They finally won a playoff series, and I expect them to win the Atlantic and build off that momentum.
Vancouver Canucks: 42-40
Vancouver is making moves and soon it’ll pay off. The Pacific is still the weakest division in the sport right now so they may find a way into the playoffs.
Vegas Golden Knights: 50-32
The champs are looking to defend their title. It’ll be fun to see what Vegas can do with a healthy roster and who wins the goaltending battle between Adin Hill and Logan Thompson.
Washington Capitals: 35-47
Ovechkin just isn’t enough anymore guys. You must find something else. This team seemingly has no idea where to go for their future, and it’s biting them hard.
1. Winnipeg Jets: 42-40
The Jets by some miracle managed to convince Hellebyuck and Scheiffle to sign contract extensions. They’ll compete for a playoff spot, but this team is still on thin ice.
