The Dallas Cowboys could see one of their best players ditch their training camp as he’s unhappy with his current contract.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that eight-time Pro Bowl guard Zack Martin is considering sitting out as he’s become disenchanted with the team’s lack of interest when it comes to restructuring his contract.
Martin, who is also the Cowboys’ captain, is said to be of the view that he is “woefully underpaid relative to the market.”
The 32-year-old will make around $7 million less than the league’s top-paid guards next season. The likes of Chris Lindstrom (Atlanta), and Quenton Nelson (Indianapolis) top that list at an average of $20 million.
Martin remains one of the highest producers in the league and earned his sixth All-Pro selection in 2022, giving up three sacks on a 96 percent pass block win rate to rank eighth-best in the NFL. He also recorded a remarkable 73.8 percent run block win rate.
The Cowboys have only briefly discussed restructuring the player’s seven-year $93.41 million contract that was signed in 2018. Back in March, they reworked the deal for the fifth straight year to help with their cap situation as they turned close to $12 million of his $13.5 million base salary into a signing bonus.

Due to all the restructurings, his cap figure will be over $23 million next year.
Martin has only missed eight games in his career and is just one Pro Bowl appearance shy of Larry Allen’s record nine for Dallas.
