Zac Taylor has revealed that the Bengals will add another quarterback following the injury to Joe Burrow.
The head coach has confirmed Burrow will miss “several weeks” as he’s sustained a right calf strain but refused to give a specific timeline when pressed by reporters.
“Several weeks is several weeks,” he said.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Taylor also revealed plans to add another QB.
“Cincinnati will add a QB, Taylor says,” the insider wrote. “They currently have two healthy ones on the roster: Jake Browning and Trevor Siemian, who will rotate by day.”
Burrow went down in training on Thursday and had to be carted off the field after falling to the ground and clutching his calf. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that the QB was already feeling some tightness in the area prior to the strain.

While the news isn’t great, there’s now hope that Burrow will be ready for the start of the 2023 season, which is five weeks away. Whether “several weeks” is more or less than that remains to be seen.
Also left to be seen is how the injury affects Burrow’s negotiations with the team given that he was in extension talks in the wake of Justin Herbert’s record-breaking deal with the Chargers.
