Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid didn’t hold back in voicing their displeasure with the officiating following the club’s Week 14 home loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Trailing by three with 1:12 remaining, Travis Kelce lateraled the football after a big catch to Kadarius Toney for what appeared to be the go-ahead touchdown. However, the TD was called back because of a questionable offside call against Toney:
Almost as newsworthy? The usually calm and cool Mahomes absolutely losing it on the officials after the Chiefs turned the ball over on downs. Reid also expressed disgust with the refs after the loss.
Denver Broncos fan @MileHighMims posted a video thread that shows a plethora of questionable officiating calls that the Chiefs benefited from over the last two years alone. The thread, of course, started with the James Bradberry holding call on JuJu Smith-Schuster late in last season’s Super Bowl:

At the end of the day, all 32 teams will be on the right side AND the wrong side of officiating mistakes. That’s how it’s always been, and that’s how it will be until/unless the league actually does something that can help improve the quality of officiating.
Whether it’s hiring full-time officials, expanding the replay review/coaching challenge rules or implementing a sky judge system, it’s long overdue for the NFL to do something on the officiating front.
