A high-ranking WWE executive has revealed that the company once tried to sign a popular NFL quarterback after he got cut.
Tim Tebow’s future in the league looked to be in doubt after he was released by the New England Patriots in the 2013 preseason.
According to Nick Khan, the wrestling promotion’s president, Paul “Triple H” Levesque made attempts to get the former Florida Gators star into a match against Big Show at WrestleMania.
Speaking on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ this week, Khan revealed that a secret meeting involving himself, Tebow, Triple H, and Vince McMahon was arranged in Anaheim, California to explore the possibility.
“I called Tim at the time, what do you think Tim,” Khan explained. “And I had then, a top secret private meeting. Tim Tebow, myself, Vince McMahon and Triple H in Anaheim, California about that. Ultimately, it didn’t happen…”
Things didn’t pan out the way the parties had hoped. Tebow went in another direction, playing baseball for a while.

Given his incredible athleticism and electric personality, one can’t help but wonder how things would have turned out for Tebow in WWE. It’s likely he would have become a major star.
As for WWE, they managed to land another former Patriot in Rob Gronkowski for a while, with the erstwhile tight end joining the promotion before he decided to unretire and join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
