Gareon Conley was robbed of millions of dollars to a false rape accusation, and now the women who accused him of it has to pay, albeit a small amount.
The former NFL cornerback released a statement announcing that a jury ruled in his favor regarding a civil case stemming from an allegation of sexual assault in 2017:
After a grand jury declined to indict Conley on criminal charges in 2017, the woman filed a civil lawsuit in 2018 for assault and battery, and he countersued her alleging malicious prosecution.
He said he was “falsely accused of sexually assaulting a young woman” and provided DNA samples and passed a polygraph test. Conley had been sued for civil assault and battery and filed a countersuit against his accuser, Brooke Puscian, for malicious prosecution. According to court records filed, the jury ruled in Conley’s favor in both matters and awarded him $300 in damages, which is all he requested. Conley said in his statement his intent in countersuing was “never about recovering money.”
“While the allegations against me cost me millions of dollars, my counterclaim was never about recovering money from my accuser. It was about clearing my name and restoring my reputation.”
“I am grateful and relieved to finally be fully exonerated,” Conley said in his statement. “To the eight jurors who spent weeks carefully considering all of the evidence, thank you for your service and respect for the justice system.”
The allegations became public shortly before the 2017 NFL draft and it cost him a ton of money by hurting his draft position and limiting endorsement opportunities, including one with Nike.
