The reason behind Will Levis slipping out of the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft has been revealed following the quarterback’s Thursday night ordeal.
Levis had to sit through 31 picks without hearing his name, despite being tipped to go top five. Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, and Anthony Richardson were the only QBs to be picked in the top 10 on the night; and Levis must have gotten a bit sweaty when the New England Patriots didn’t pick him later on in the round as the team was reported to have a real interest in him.
To make matters worse, ESPN’s cameras put the player on the spot several times during the event, showing him looking nervous and dejected at various points.
The night certainly did not go as planned for Levis but he’s likely to come off the board on Friday night as he’s now predicted to be an early second-round pick. And, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, a toe injury that forced the QB to miss two college games last year is the reason for his slip.
Levis has said the toe is healed but it appears he wasn’t convincing enough as teams wanted nothing to do with him in the first round.

If that is actually the case, it’s pretty strange that there wasn’t any talk pertaining to a toe injury in the buildup to the draft, even while Stroud was getting criticized over leaked cognition scores.
