Will Levis is likely relieved to be on a team following his slip from the first round of last week’s NFL Draft. But he might not be all that thrilled to play home games, having gotten selected by the Tennessee Titans.
The Titans picked the quarterback No. 33 overall, taking him as the second pick in the second round, which could turn out to be a blessing in disguise as he could soon be the starting QB, with Ryan Tannehill not getting any younger.
Even so, he should have an issue with his new team as they’re set to switch playing surfaces in 2023.
The former Kentucky signal-caller was urging change in the NFL even before getting drafted, joining the likes of George Kittle, David Bakhtiai, Bryan Bresee, and sports performance specialist Jeremy Holt to discuss the debate turf vs. grass debate. The aforementioned five had teamed up with The Players’ Tribune and Pennington Lawn to push for natural playing surfaces.
“As I start my pro football career, I think about the guys who came before me and have championed a safer way to play football,” Levis wrote back then. “Excited to join the next generation in advocating for teams to play on grass.”

Kittle, in particular, has been against turf for a while now and he’ll tell anyone willing to listen that injuries are more likely to occur on such pitches as they’re harder on the body than natural grass surfaces.
The Titans have played on grass for as long as they’ve been around but are switching to turf for next season and will retain it when they move into their new stadium.
