The Jacksonville Jaguars are trying hard to forget their recent season as soon as possible. After a series of losses, their recent outing against the Detroit Lions was outright catastrophic! Afterall, with a score of 6-52, it cannot be termed as a loss. The Jaguars were obliterated in every manner possible. With the need for a change looking inevitable within the system, fans want the axe to fall on HC Doug Pederson ASAP. But is Pederson ready to accept defeat?
What Did Doug Pederson Say After The Crushing Defeat?
This is the second time that the Jaguars are having a forgetful time under Doug Pederson. Back in 2023, the team did start strong. But soon, their performance plummeted, and the Jaguars lost five out of their six matches to get out of the playoff contention. Now, with high hopes of a turnaround coming into this season, the Jaguars’ fans are having a deja vu.
The team is sitting at a pitiful 2 wins and 9 losses. Thus, it is only expected that the fans will want the coach to step down or be sacked immediately. But Doug Pederson? Well, he does not seem to flinch. On being asked if this was his last match for the Jaguars, Pederson had a neutral reply. “I can’t control that. I’ve been around this league a long time, and if it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen,” said Pederson.
HC Doug Pederson on if this was last game w/Jaguars: “I can't control that. I've been around this league a long time & if it's going to happen, it's going to happen. But at the same time I still have a job to do & that's to get ready for a good division opponent in two weeks.”

Moreover, the Jaguars HC also mentioned how he currently wants to focus on the job at hand. Till the time he was sacked, Pederson wanted to make sure he tried to uplift the team’s performance. “But at the same time, I still have a job to do, and that’s to get ready for a good division opponent in two weeks,” added Pederson. Now, with the team’s future hanging in the balance, the upcoming days look quite grim for the Jaguars.
What’s Next For Doug Pederson And The Jaguars?
The 6-52 mauling against the Lions was the joint worst performance of the Jaguars. Such a catastrophic loss happened only once, back in 1995 when they were a first-year expansion team. And after such a disastrous season, a midseason change looks like the only way out. The Jaguars have witnessed some midseason shake-ups previously. Back in 2020, GM Dave Caldwell was given the golden handshake.

In 2021 too, Shad Khan had parted ways with Urban Meyer. Thus, everything is pointing toward a change of reigns in the coaching department for the Jaguars. As for their remaining matches, the Jaguars are up against the mighty Houston Texans next. With the fans fearing the worst, it remains to be seen how the Jaguars will cope with the challenge next.
