Sean Taylor deserved so much more than he got on Sunday and his family was highly disrespected with the retiring of his number that appeared to be put together in such short notice.
When the Washington Football Team announced last week it was retiring Sean Taylor’s jersey on such short notice, it was met with heavy backlash as it appeared to be a PR stunt to get the attention away from the email scandal. As it turns out, it was definitely a stunt after the team’s “ceremony” did not live up to expectation.
- The road that was re-dedicated in his honor was done so in front of some disgusting porta-potties where his family lined up to take a picture in front of.
- The sideline tribute that has gotten Jackson Mahomes blasted was in the same area where the VIP’s stand.
- The halftime ceremony provided the fans with zero speeches.
- The owner didn’t even bother to dress up in respect for the family as he showed up in a hoodie to greet them.
This is the third time in the Washington Football Team’s 89-year history a jersey number was retired, according to the team.
“I came into the NFL the same year as Sean Taylor and immediately his athletic ability, resilience, grit, and relentless work ethic set him apart. I and many others looked to him as a role model,” Washington Football Team president Jason Wright said in the release.
“The fact that he was tragically taken so early hurt our player community, but also our fans, coaches, and staff. We will continue to remember him and hold him up as an example of professionalism and excellence, and we will all strive to mirror his excellence in our own ways.”

Taylor was 24 years old when he was shot during an apparent burglary at his home in Miami, where he was rehabilitating after a knee injury. He would tragically lose his life the following day.
He and his girlfriend at the time were awakened by noise coming from the living room, so Taylor got up and locked the bedroom door. Unfortunately, it would be kicked in and two shots were fired. A bullet struck the femoral artery in Taylor’s leg, causing massive blood loss.
He had an 18-month-old daughter at the time of his death.
