The Washington Football Team wil be sticking with their current nickname for at least the upcoming season, but things might be changing by the time the 2022 season comes around.
The franchise has reportedly whittled its name search down to just a few possibilities, NBC Sports Washington is reporting.
Jason Wright, the president of the Washington Football Team, told head coach Ron Rivera and general manager Martin Mayhew the three potential names on the latest edition of “Making the Brand.” Unfortunately, they made sure to bleep them all out so we could not hear it.
“So the three that will go through are, [inaudible], [inaudible] and [inaudible],” Wright said with the actual names bleeped out.
“We started out with 40,000 submissions and began from there to winnow down to a smaller amount,” Wright says in the video. “It gave us a broad view of how the public and the fan base feel about us as an organization and where they want to see us go.”
“Jason Wright told us that the list had been narrowed – mainly because they wanted to announce it on their team web site with this video,” Jhabvala said, via NBC Sports Washington. “But he did say that they had narrowed the list and pretty significantly, too. We learned it’s down to three. After watching the video, I did confirm that’s in fact what they were going with at the end of the video when Jason Wright said, ‘so we’re going to put these three through.’ Yes. The list has been narrowed.”
