The Washington Commanders could shake up the NFL Draft tonight by making one big move.
The Washington Commanders are reportedly open to dealing one or both of two defensive studs on the team.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano is reporting that Chase Young or Montez Sweat could be traded during the 2023 NFL Draft.
It was just 24 hours ago when the team declined Young’s fifth-year option. Young looked like an absolute superstar during his rookie season. Young wrecked more experienced offensive linemen, racking up 7.5 sacks and winning the Associated Press’ Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Parting ways with him would be shocking. Though his career started strong, Young sustained an ACL tear in his right knee during the team’s Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. He also missed the rest of the 2021 NFL season and played in just three games during the 2022 NFL season.
Since his rookie year, Young has just 1.5 sacks in 12 total games.

However, Josina Anderson reported from a source that Young being traded is “highly unlikely” unless the Commanders get a deal like two first-rounders.
Drafted in the first round (26th overall) in the 2019 NFL draft, Sweat has thus far been the best of Washington’s defensive ends.
Last season, Sweat had career-highs in tackles for a loss (14) and quarterback hits (28). In addition, Sweat also contributed 8.0 quarterback sacks. His career high came in 2020 with 9.0.
The former Mississippi State Bulldog is set to earn $11.5 million this season, and if he has a huge year in 2023, he could be in high demand.
Would the Commanders then determine to resign Sweat or let him walk in free agency? That remains to be seen.
