There are several teams in the National Football League that desperately want a franchise QB and would do just about anything to make it happen.
According to recent reports, the Commanders are willing to give up “almost anyone” to make this happen. That means even parting ways with superstar defender Chase Young. If the franchise follows through with it, they would expect an “Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson level” talent in return.
“I think almost anyone on the roster is available if the result is Washington improving at quarterback. In Young’s case, that would mean the Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson level,” Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Young tore his ACL in November, but he is expected to be cleared for the start of the 2022 season. The former No. 2 overall pick is is a force to be wreckoned with on the defensive side of the ball.
Currently, Washington only has one quarterback under contract for 2022. That would be Taylor Heinicke, who started 16 games for the Commanders last season. He had some good moments, but a lot mor forgettable ones.
Last year, Washington opted to try and solve its quarterback position with a temporary fix. The team signed veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick in free agency, with the hope he would be an upgrade over what they had. That failed almost immediately as Fitzpatrick completed all of three passes before suffering a season-ending hip injury in Week 1.
