The Washington Commanders needed to make a change and all they needed was a blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys to go forward with it.
Amid questions about Ron Rivera’s status with the Washington Commanders, the team would actually go another route and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio was among the first two members of the coaching staff to be fired.
Del Rio and defensive backs coach Brent Vieselmeyer were fired on Friday after a 45-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.
Ron Rivera will now call defensive plays after Jack Del Rio’s firing. He will do so for the rest of the year.

The decision comes a day after the Commanders lost 45-10 to the Dallas Cowboys and a week after they allowed 31 points to Tommy DeVito and the New York Giants.
Del Rio was in his fourth year as the defensive coordinator in Washington. The 60-year-old previously had three seasons as head coach of the Raiders and nine seasons as head coach of the Jaguars. He has also been a defensive coordinator in Carolina and in Denver.
