Buffalo Bills defensive end Von Miller broke his silence over the team’s decision to bench him for Week 17 against the New England Patriots.
Miller did not have an injury designation ahead of Week 17, but the Bills opted to make him inactive for their must-win game. The Bills held on for a tight 27-21 win to improve to 10-6 on the season, setting up a Week 18 prime time showdown with the Miami Dolphins that will determine the winner of the AFC East.
Per Ryan O’Halloran of The Buffalo News, Miller supported the Bills’ decision to sit him for Week 17, noting that he hasn’t played up to his usual standards this year.
“I’m my biggest critic and from my standpoint, I wasn’t playing up to the standard,” Miller said.
In 11 games this season, Miller hasn’t notched a single sack. He played 11 games last year for Buffalo before suffering a season-ending ACL tear, but Miller still had eight sacks and one forced fumble on the year.
Not only that, but the two-time Super Bowl champion has a woeful 2023 Pro Football Focus grade of 44.4. For comparison sake, he had a grade of 85.8 last year.

Despite Miller’s disappointing season, the Bills still enter Week 18 with the No. 4 scoring defense, allowing only 18.6 points per game. The pass rush certainly hasn’t been an issue, with Leonard Floyd (10.5 sacks), Ed Oliver (9.5), Terrel Bernard (6.5) and A.J. Epenesa 6.5) all posting excellent numbers.
