The Minnesota Vikings have been urged to bring in a new quarterback following their 2023 NFL campaign.
The Vikings won the NFC North after going 13-4 last season but won’t be involved in the playoffs this year after ending the regular season with a loss to the Detroit Lions. Expectations weren’t that high after they lost Kirk Cousins to a season-ending Achilles injury, while they were also made to endure several games without star wide receiver Justin Jefferson.
With Cousins now 35 years old and approaching free agency, Yardbarker has urged the team to move on and try to get Baker Mayfield, who has resurrected his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“The 28-year-old has had a renaissance of sorts with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is on pace to throw for 4,025 yards and 29 touchdown passes, easily career highs for the former first overall pick. If a reunion with Kirk Cousins isn’t in the cards, and the Vikings believe they can still contend, Mayfield would fit nicely into the team’s ‘competitive rebuild’ approach.”
The Bucs took a chance on the 2018 first-overall pick after he spent last season with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams. Their gamble paid off as he’s helped them to a postseason berth at the end of a term they were expected to tank.
However, there are some concerns as he missed practice with ankle and rib injuries on Thursday.
