A massive trade proposal has an NFC team moving up into the top-three to select their new franchise quarterback in April’s 2024 NFL Draft.
In his latest NFL mock draft, Josh Edwards of CBS Sports projected that the Minnesota Vikings will trade up into the No. 3 spot via the New England Patriots to select North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye:
“Minnesota has perused the rookie quarterback market over the past few years and has not been in a position to pounce. I tend to think New England WILL draft a quarterback, but the possibility that it is not in love with the quarterback prospects available has to be considered. In this instance, the Patriots give the Vikings the heir apparent to Kirk Cousins.”
Edwards has the Chicago Bears using the top pick on USC’s Caleb Williams (the consensus choice to go first overall), with LSU’s Jayden Daniels going to the Washington Commanders in the No. 2 spot.
Minnesota’s starting quarterback of the past six years, Kirk Cousins, is a pending free agent. He’s also about to enter his age-36 campaign and is coming off a season-ending Achilles tear, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the Vikings decided to settle on a younger option at QB this year.
In 2023, Maye completed 63.3 percent of his pass attempts for 3,608 yards and 24 touchdowns against nine interceptions to go along with 449 rushing yards and nine rushing scores.
