Four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins is heading into the last year of his contract with the Minnesota Vikings and it appears there’s a belief that the team could pick his replacement up in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Cousins, who was the league’s completions leader in 2015, has been with Minnesota since 2018. And, according to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, the Vikings could bring in a QB when the draft period comes along as they have been doing their due diligence as it pertains to this year’s class of signal-callers.
The insider revealed his latest mock draft this week and has Minnesota selecting Hendon Hooker with their No. 23 pick. Hooker is the fifth-ranked quarterback prospect in 2023, behind only Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, and Anthony Richardson, but that isn’t to say the Vikings will do away with Cousins.
Should they opt to go in such a direction, it would make more sense to have the youngster take a back seat while the veteran plays out his last year.
“The Vikings have been doing their homework on this quarterback class,” Jeremiah writes. “Hooker is well-liked around the league and he could sit for a year behind Kirk Cousins before taking over and ushering in a new era for Kevin O’Connell.”
While there are other pressing matters for the Vikings when it comes to their squad, they aren’t set up for the long term in the QB department so this would be considered a good move.

Hooker, who stands at 6ft 31in and weighs 217lbs, has a rating 0f 86.8 and would have likely boasted stronger prospects had it not been for the season-ending knee injury he suffered last November.
