Coming off a 7-10 season and non-playoff appearance, the Minnesota Vikings face several difficult decisions this offseason.
Without a doubt, the most important decision is what to do at quarterback. Do they re-sign 36-year-old pending free agent and four-time Pro Bowler Kirk Cousins? If they let him walk, do the Vikings draft a new signal-caller or find another option in free agency or via the trade market?
According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, some around the league are watching the Vikings with the No. 11 pick. There are even talks that they could “target” a quarterback early in the draft:
“People around the league are keeping an eye on the Minnesota Vikings at No. 11, too. They did a lot of quarterback homework last offseason and could eventually target one high in the draft with free agent Kirk Cousins’ future in Minnesota uncertain. But moving from No. 11 into the top three would cost GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah a ton of draft capital.”
USC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels (the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner) are widely regarded as the top quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft class. The second tier includes Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., Oregon’s Bo Nix and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.
The Vikings last drafted a quarterback in round one back in 2014, when they moved up for Louisville star Teddy Bridgewater.
