Jeff Gladney will likely find himself off the Vikings and out of the National Football League with these allegations.
The Minnesota Vikings cornerback was indicted Tuesday by a Texas grand jury for felony assault of his former girlfriend/
He’s charged with domestic violence by impeding breathing, for “intentionally, knowingly and recklessly” causing bodily injury and applying pressure to the woman’s neck and throat, according to the indictment.
“According to the lawsuit that was acquired by USA TODAY Sports, Gladney is accused of committing multiple inexcusable acts in addition to the alleged assault.
Some of the new details from the lawsuit include the Minnesota cornerback allegedly assaulting the female victim for more than two hours, slamming the victim’s head on the dashboard of his vehicle, pulling off the freeway multiple times to assault the victim while stopped at red lights, attempting to bribe the victim to keep quiet after the incident with a $1,000 necklace and a gift certificate to a spa, and showing up at the victim’s home less than two weeks ago to force her to delete text messages and screenshots of text messages.”
If convicted, the cornerback could serve up to 10 years in prison.
Vikings owner and president Mark Wilf addressed reporters about the situation:
“Obviously allegations like these are very disturbing, and something that’s concerning to us as ownership and to our organization,” Wilf said. “So the news you’re just talking about just apparently hit a couple minutes ago, so right now our GM and our coach, and we’re talking to the league, and really working through to understand this better. And as we get more information here in the coming hours, we’ll let you know where we go on this. But obviously the allegations are very disturbing.”
