Just because you’re a superstar in the National Football League does not mean you’re immune from harsh criticism, and Tyreek Hill found that out the hard way.
During a recent appearance on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Miami Dolphins Tyreek Hill was talking about how guys aren’t used to being called out by the head coach. A host then asked him if it ever happened to him, and he revealed it was back in January when the team lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card game at Arrowhead Stadium.
Hill revealed Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel had some choice words for him during Miami’s 26-7 loss. He stated it was a play where he was jammed off the line of scrimmage by Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, and it caused his head coach to blow his top.
“The play against Sneed,” Hill said, according to Pro Football Talk. “The Chiefs, everybody see this play against the Chiefs. When the [dude] slammed me to the floor? He called me out. He like, ‘Reek, bro, you’re supposed to be the [freaking] best player in the [freaking] league, and you got this guy putting hands all over you like that. We pay you all this money for what?'”
Despite being brutally called out, Tyreek Hill further stated that he appreciated Mike McDaniel for doing so because it actually motivates him.
“And for me, I love [stuff] like that. I’m gonna take that [stuff] to heart, and I’m gonna get better from it. That’ll never happen again to me in my life, man. You feel me? If a [guy] cannot hold me accountable, I feel like I’m not gonna be able to get better, you know what I’m saying? Like, obviously, the coaches can bypass that, you know what I’m saying, and just be like, ‘Ah, he’ll get better from it.’ But if he’s not saying nothing, like the other guys in the locker room, they’re gonna look at it as, ‘Oh, if Reek can do it, I can do it.’ And that’s not getting the team better.”

In that playoff loss, Tyreek Hill caught five passes for 62 yards and Miami’s lone touchdown on the day. The game was frustrating for the team as their offense struggled to get anything going on what was a cold and miserable day.
Hill even took to social media after the game to admit that Sneed got the better of him on that particular play that got him yelled at by his head coach.
Hill will get a chance to get some revenge on Sneed this year after the cornerback was traded to the Tennessee Titans, who will be playing the Dolphins in Miami this year.
Tyreek Hill Had An Incredible Statistical Year In 2023
Tyreek Hill was arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL last season as not only led the league with 1,799 receiving yards, but he also finished tied for the NFL lead in touchdown catches with 13 while also hauling in a total of 119 receptions.
If he continues to put up those types of numbers, the Dolphins will be just as deadly in 2024.
