Tom Brady clapped back at Baker Mayfield’s comments that the legendary quarterback made things stressful during his tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last week, Mayfield said on the Casa de Klub podcast that Tom Brady led a “high-strung environment” and the players were “pretty stressed out” under his leadership. Mayfield claimed he brought “the joy back to football” when he took over as the Bucs’ starting QB following Brady’s 2023 retirement.
Well, Brady got his chance to respond in the broadcast booth on Sunday afternoon. The three-time league MVP and Kevin Burkhardt were on the call for the Bucs’ Week 4 home game against Jalen Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles.
“I thought stressful was not having Super Bowl rings,” Brady said. “This wasn’t daycare. If I wanted to have fun I was gonna go to Disneyland with my kids.”
Tom Brady added that teammates like Rob Gronkowski and Mike Evans knew the importance of delivering when there were high expectations. Brady also stressed the importance of bringing “the mindset of a champion” to work.

Two things can be true here. Tom Brady was competitive, driven and prioritized winning only. And he doesn’t have to apologize with seven Super Bowl rings and the proud owner of every major NFL passing record.
Maybe Brady’s intense passion and drive stressed his teammates in Tampa Bay out, but it was well worth it since it resulted in a Super Bowl 55 title. At the same time, Mayfield is playing the best football of his career while adding the element of fun for his teammates.
After hosting the Eagles on Sunday afternoon, Mayfield and his Bucs will travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons on Thursday night.
Tom Brady Had The Perfect Response
It’s been almost two years since Brady retired, but you can see that his competitive dive hasn’t ended. FOX Sports paid him $375 million to provide that energy and passion to the broadcast booth, and this is exactly what they want from him.
