Philadelphia Eagles star safety CJ Gardner-Johnson may want to avoid social media for at least a couple of days.
For professional athletes, few things are more embarrassing than premature trash talk that backfires. CJ Gardner-Johnson is feeling that shame again after promising something that his Eagles couldn’t deliver in Sunday’s Week 4 road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Before the game, the Yahoo Sports X/Twitter account shared a video of Gardner-Johnson saying, “I’m putting belt to a** today” in his home state.
Well, CJ Gardner-Johnson’s words would have rung true if he was a member of the Buccaneers. Unfortunately for the veteran safety, his Eagles didn’t exactly show up for today’s game at Raymond James Stadium.
The Bucs built up a 24-0 lead in the second quarter against the Eagle, opening the door for social media to tee off on Gardner-Johnson:

Through his first three games with the Eagles, Gardner-Johnson has 19 tackles. According to Pro Football Focus, Gardner-Johnson had a disappointing Pro Football Focus grade of 51.9 heading into Sunday’s game vs. the Bucs.
CJ Gardner-Johnson returned to the Eagles in free agency after a one-year stint with the Detroit Lions. He had a career year in the 2022 season, notching six interceptions and one sack, helping the Eagles to a Super Bowl 57 appearance where they narrowly fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.
CJ Gardner-Johnson & Eagles Have Plenty Of Work To Do
Sunday’s humiliating 33-16 loss to the Buccaneers drops them to 2-2 on the season. The offense was short-handed with star wideouts AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith sidelined, but the Eagles defense never gave Jalen Hurts and the offense a chance to win this game.
The Eagles defense has been a massive disappointment through the first four weeks, and it’s going to have to improve if they’re to return to the playoffs.
