Rugby player Louis Rees-Zammitt has put himself under the microscope, as far as NFL teams are concerned, following an impressive 40-yard Pro Day dash.
The 23-year-old surprisingly quit rugby after earning 32 caps for the Wales national team to enter the NFL’s International Pathways Players Program (IPPP) in January, and it appears his decision was a sound one.
The IPPP offers a 10-week crash course that brings international players up to speed on what’s required to make it in the league.
Rees-Zammitt ran the 40 at the University of South Florida’s Pro Day on Wednesday and clocked a time of 4.44 seconds. While this is quite impressive and only 11 players have run a sub-4.30 second dash since 2013, he was disappointed with his performance, according to the Associated Press (H/T the Daily Mail).

Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy set a new NFL Cobine record as he ran a 4.21 in the 40 earlier this month. Louis Rees-Zammitt’s time would have put him in the top 30 draft prospects at the Combine this year.
The former rugby star once set a top speed of 24.2 MPH during a game, which is faster than the 23.24 MPH reached by Miami Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill while he was still with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016.
Louis Rees-Zammitt Has Received Offers From 3 NFL Teams
According to MLFootball, three NFL teams have reached out to Rees-Zammit with offers. So it will be interesting to see whether he makes it into the league.
Meanwhile, 15 other international players were given a chance to impress scouts at pro Day, including Northampton center Harry Mallinder and Gaelic football goalkeepers Rory Beggan, Charlie Smyth, and Mark Jackson. Scottish sprinter Praise Olatoke was also put through his paces.
