Sunday Night Football is back, meaning millions of people get annoyed by what Cris Collinsworth has to say.
Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season was exciting to the end as the Detroit Lions defeated the Los Angeles Rams in Overtime.
Cris Collinsworth was on call for Sunday Night Football on NBC, and fortunately for everybody in the building, he was not on the sidelines calling plays.
With less than eight minutes to play in Overtime, the Lions were approaching the goal line for what was ultimately the game-winning touchdown.
However, Collinsworth started talking like a man who had no clue what the overtime rules were.
Cris Collinsworth was operating under the impression that the NFL had sudden death overtime rules and spoke as if the Lions would look to win the game with a field goal.
That is incorrect information.

The only way the game would be over is if the Lions scored a touchdown. If they had kicked a field goal, then we would’ve seen the Rams get a chance to be on offense.
“You start thinking about it, right? You start thinking about how much do you need before you’re gonna go line up and kick it? You start thinking about which side do you want your kicker to be able to kick it from?” said Collinsworth as the Lions marched down field.
“Try to score, don’t let the Rams have a chance to even touch the ball,” responded Tirico, seemingly trying to remind Collinsworth of the rules.
Cris Collinsworth Gets Corrected By Mike Tirico
As you get older, sometimes it’s harder to remember things.
Such was the case for Cris Collinsworth on Sunday Night Football when the Detroit Lions were busy marching down the field to ultimately score a TD to beat the Los Angeles Rams in overtime.
Collinsworth started stating how the home team should line up to kick a field goal, thinking it would end the game.
During overtime, Collinsworth’s partner, play-by-play man Mike Tirico, corrected him when informing him that the Lions needed to score a touchdown to end the game, per Awful Announcing.
He actually had to tell him more than once.
