Rob Gronkowski was forced to relive an embarrassing moment from his first year with FOX Sports this Sunday.
The former NFL tight end made his return to ‘FOX NFL Sunday,’ having been absent last week because of his new role with the network. But he was back with Curt Menefee and crew this weekend as he dropped in to preview Week 4’s games alongside Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, and Michael Strahan, with Jimmy Johnson getting a week off.
The guys welcomed Gronk back via a prank they recorded during his first season with the network, which we are only now getting to see.
The clip, shown below, shows the crew discussing a tight end named “Rich Russo” returning to the starting lineup for the Dallas Cowboys against the Buffalo Bills. Russo is, of course, a made-up character, but everyone else is in on the joke except Rob.
Jay Glazer kicks things off by claiming to have received a tip from Jerry Jones, who let him know Russo, a Pro Bowler, would be playing. Strahan and Bradshaw agree that he has done enough to merit a start.

Gronk, who believes he’s live on air, looks confused but nods along. Things really get serious when he’s asked for his opinion on Russo.
“You know he’s been out for a little bit, so he might be a little rusty coming back,” he says as Strahan and Bradshaw struggle to keep themselves from laughing.

“But I think they’re going to give him the opportunities, that’s for sure.”
Things explode when Bradshaw claims Russo is missing two fingers on one hand, and Gronk says he can’t relate because he has “all five” of his fingers before Bradshaw lets him know he has five more.
Gronk saw the footage for the first time this Sunday.
“I learnt two things about myself from that clip,” he said, laughing. “One, that I am a funny guy. Two, that I am always ready.”
To be fair, the former TE totally owned the moment, as he was able to roll with it despite having no idea who Rich Russo was.
