The legendary Bill Belichick began his NFL coaching career in 1975 and remained on a team’s staff every year through 2023.
Given the tireless work put in by NFL head coaches, you would think that the vast majority of them are avid coffee drinkers…especially Bill Belichick.
Take a look at Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell, renowned for his intense energy and passion that’s on display 24/7. Back in September, Campbell told reporters that his Starbucks orders consist of two venti coffees with a pair of espresso shots in each drink, per Joe Pompliano.
Now, former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick certainly doesn’t come across someone who downs coffee like Campbell. Belichick has always been a person of few words, and he rarely shows much emotion or energy in the public eye.
But considering that he’s the most successful coach in NFL history, you’d think that Belichick would turn to caffeine AT LEAST once in a while to keep himself awake. But during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show”, Belichick revealed that he’s never once consumed a cup of coffee.
McAfee asked the 72-year-old Bill Belichick if it’s true that he hates coffee. That’s where he made the stunning admission.
“Never had a cup of coffee in my life,” Belichick said.

Belichick and the New England Patriots parted ways this offseason, and he was ultimately passed over in the 2024 head coach hiring cycle. It’s widely expected that Belichick will be hired by another team next year, with the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants being mentioned as possible landing spots.
Bill Belichick’s Coaching Career Isn’t Over Just Yet
Belichick is second all-time on the NFL head coaching wins list (333, including the postseason), behind only the late Don Shula (347).
The six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach looked poised to break Shula’s record during his tenure in New England, but two straight losing and non-playoff seasons prompted the Pats to make a change at head coach.
He wasn’t hired this year, but the greatest head coach in NFL history will most certainly land a job next year. He may be 72 years of age now, but it’s obvious that Belichick hasn’t at all lost his passion for coaching.
