New England used the No. 3 pick on North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, after Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels went first and second overall to the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, respectively.

Before the 2024 NFL Draft kicked off, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Giants were trying to trade up for Maye. The Giants were also linked to Michigan QB JJ McCarthy, but they wound up taking LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers at No. 6 overall.
Nabers fills a pressing need for the Giants, who haven’t had a 1,000-yard wide receiver since Odell Beckham Jr. in 2018. With Drake Maye out of their reach, Daniel Jones has been given one final chance to prove himself as a worthy starting QB in the Meadowlands.
Drake Maye & Jacoby Brissett Are Battling It Out For QB1 Job
Before drafting Drake Maye with the No. 3 selection, the Patriots brought back old friend and journeyman Jacoby Brissett on a one-year deal. Brisset has established himself as one of the better backups/bridge QBs in the league, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if head coach Jerod Mayo went with him as the Week 1 starter.
Brissett was on the Patriots’ roster during their 2016 Super Bowl championship season, making two starts with Tom Brady suspended and Jimmy Garoppolo sidelined.
The Patriots kick off year one of the post-Bill Belichick era with a road contest against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 8.
