Baker Mayfield had an interesting response after being asked about the flag-planting incidents that took place around college football this past weekend.
The NCAA closed curtains on its regular season with its final slate of games last week, and things ended with a maelstrom of brawls and flag planting, with mascots even getting in on the action. Michigan vs. Ohio State featured the most notable of the incidents, with police pulling out the pepper spray after players got out of hand.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback is perhaps the most famous flag planter following his actions after Oklahoma beat the Buckeyes in 2017. So, naturally, he was asked for his thoughts on the weekend’s events after the Buccaneers’ win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
“College football is meant to have rivalries,” he said as part of his reply. “That’s like the Big 12 banning the ‘horns down’ signal. Just let the boys play.”

Baker Mayfield’s Response Shouldn’t Surprise Anyone
The Bucs QB helped his team to a sixth win of the season on Sunday, though he threw two interceptions in the game. Mayfield completed 21/33 passing attempts for one touchdown in the 26-23 win over Carolina.

His reaction to the question shouldn’t surprise anyone, given that his own flag-plant stands out in college football history.
He would probably sound hypocritical had he chastised the practice despite its controversial nature, especially after disrespecting New York Giants signal-caller Tommy DeVito just last week.
