Trent Williams ended his holdout and returned to the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday with a new contract. Everyone can thank Ricky Pearsall for that.
As we all know, Pearsall was shot in the chest over the weekend during an attempted robbery but miraculously survived his injuries.
The situation made an impact on Trent Williams.
When meeting with the media after agreeing to his new deal, the 11-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle explained why he decided to end his holdout and how Ricky Pearsall helped moved things along.
The 15-year NFL veteran met the rookie wide receiver once for only a few minutes during OTAs in June and was impressed by him during their initial interaction.
“In my mind I’m like, ‘Man I just want to get back, get around the team,'” Williams said, per KTLA5. “Ricky stood out to me because when I popped in for OTAs for about the 30 minutes I was here, he did go out of his way to come and introduce himself to me.”

Trent Williams further added that he noticed Pearsall’s sincerity and confidence, which are not always apparent in rookies.
He added, “For him to come up and kind of introduce [himself], and I just instantly felt this vibe and could just feel he’s such a genuine person. So seeing that happen, I’m like, ‘Man, I just want to get back … and be there for the team.'”
The 36-year-old left tackle wanted to get to the facility to support Pearsall and the team.
“When I saw that happen, I just wanted to be a voice in his ear,” Williams said. “[To] let him know everything will be all right, and be there for the team. A lot of people are probably hurt and confused about what happened, thinking, ‘Am I going to be next?’ So I want to be around for that.”
