The Jacksonville Jaguars fired first-year coach Urban Meyer early Thursday, drawing instantaneous reaction around social media, which included several messages from one of the former coach’s daughters, Gigi Meyer Pruett.
Gigi Meyer took to her personal Instagram account and defended her father’s reputation as well as accusations of him being a bully.
“What a bully” as Gigi posts numerous photos of Meyer with different players over the years as well a quote below of her father complimenting his players.
“Couldn’t hurt a fly” as she posted another photo of Urban at a wedding and holding a baby.
“This bully always says “family over everything” Always forced us on stage to be in pics with him bc he couldnt enjoy the moment without us.”
“Here’s what you don’t see in the media,” as she shows Meyer with a kid in a wheelchair.
“Always spoke about the power of love and family with his platform. Never once cared about the money he made and his fame.”

The Jaguars’ move to fire Meyer early Thursday could result in a sizable buyout payment for parting ways before the end of the first season of a five-year deal. Meyer’s remaining four years on his deal were valued at roughly $9 million or more per season, meaning Jacksonville would be on the hook for potentially $40 million unless he was fired for cause, according to Michael Ginnitti, the co-founder of Spotrac.
“It’s possible he doesn’t see another dime. It’s possible Shad Khan pays the whole thing,” Ginnitti said. “It’s possible a smaller buyout was agreed to. It’s for certain that there will be lawyers.”
The Jaguars, who enter Sunday’s game against the Texans at 2-11, will be coached the rest of this season by Darrell Bevell, the team’s offensive coordinator.
