Joe Burrow is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and is in line to sign the richest contract in NFL history before the start of next season. However, it was not that long ago that his coach at Ohio State, Urban Meyer thought that Burrow did not have the skills to become an elite quarterback.
Before transferring to LSU where he would become a household name and lead the Tigers to an undefeated season, winning the National Championship and the Heisman Trophy in 2019, Burrow began his collegiate career at Ohio State. It was there that then head coach Urban Meyer said of Burrow, he would be a “D2 quarterback at best” and also that “you throw like a girl”
It appears as Burrow used these insults as inspiration and motivation to become the best quarterback he can be as he now sits in the upper tier of quarterbacks in the NFL along with Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts.
Heading into the 2023 season, Burrow currently has the second best odds to win regular season MVP at +650, just behind Mahomes who is at +550. Meanwhile, Meyer was fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars just 13 games into his disastrous NFL coaching career, filled with controversy after compiling a 2-11 record back in 2021. Looks like Joe Burrow got the last laugh here.
