New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is being blamed for the team’s dysfunction in 2022, particularly where it pertains to the offense.
The Pats haven’t seen much success since Tom Brady left but things have gotten worse since Josh McDaniels vacated the post of offensive coordinator to take over as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Belichick promoted Matt Patricia to fill the void while bringing Joe Judge back as quarterbacks coach. Those decisions led to the Patriots registering the worst offensive performance of Belichick’s career in New England. The team ranked 26th in total offense and 17th in scoring offense, while ranking 24th in running and 20th in passing.
Per Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, a source from the organization told him the HC “f*cked the team” and, by extension, derailed the season.
“I love coach [Belichick], but he f*cked us,” the source was quoted as saying.
“It’s always been about winning and doing what’s best for the team,” another source said. “I really believe [Belichick] when he says that. I just think he really didn’t understand how hard it was going to be.”
Mac Jones Did Not Like Joe Judge
According to Callahan, another source within the team claimed that Judge eventually lost the team as he would “command meetings” and coach across positions. It’s said that Belichick would also berate him during practices too.

Yet another source noted that quarterback Mac Jones dislikes the QB coach and they got into “Profanity-laced” arguments often.
Jones had a good rookie season after being drafted at No. 15 in 2021, throwing for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions en route to the Pro Bowl. The Patriots reached the playoffs with a 10-7 record as well.
The young signal-caller regressed significantly this season, though he missed some games due to an ankle injury, logging 2,997 passing yards, 14 TDs, and 11 interceptions. The Pats finished 8-9 and missed the playoffs for the second time in the last three campaigns.
