The Chicago Bears have little time to reflect on the sudden resignation of defensive coordinator Alan Williams, who announced his decision to step away on Wednesday morning.
Williams’ resignation came following reports that FBI agents had raided the home of the 53-year-old. There were rumors going around that Halas Hall, the Bears’ official team headquarters, had also been raided, but this was quickly shut down.
Per Adam Hoge of AllCHGO.com, Bears’ cornerback Tyrique Stevenson stated that the team is simply moving trying to improve while focusing on upsetting the heavily-favored Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
“We’re not looking at it as a loss. We’re just looking at it as room for improvement,” Stevenson said. “We’re focusing on the main goal and that main goal is going out and shocking the world and beating Kansas City.”
In a statement shared by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Williams cited the need to focus on his personal health and his family as to why he was leaving the organization. Williams was in his second season as the Bears’ DC.

Williams and current Bears’ head coach Matt Eberflus previously worked together in Indianapolis under Frank Reich’s staff. Williams was the Colts’ defensive backs coach, and Eberflus served as the defensive coordinator.
The Bears hired Eberflus as their new head coach in 2022, and he brought over Williams to work as the defensive coordinator. Williams was on the Colts’ staff under Tony Dungy that won Super Bowl 41 in the 2006 season.
