Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver Tyreek Hill had a hilarious description of new teammate and fellow pass-catcher Chase Claypool.
Last week, the Dolphins acquired the inconsistent fourth-year wideout and a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick. The Canadian kid was a healthy scratch for Weeks 4 and 5 before getting traded to the Dolphins.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Hill stated that his new teammate “looks like a vending machine out there when he’s running”, per David Furones of the Sun Suntinel. Hill didn’t elaborate on the “vending machine” comment, so interpret it however you wish.
The 6-foot-4, 238-pound Claypool has been one of football’s greater enigmas over the past three years. He surpassed 800 yards receiving as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020 and 2021, racking up nine touchdowns in his rookie year.
But after an inconsistent start in Pittsburgh last year, the Notre Dame wideout was traded to the Bears for what turned out to be the No. 32 selection of the 2023 NFL Draft. Claypool never got it going in Chicago, recording just 18 receptions for 191 yards and a touchdown in 10 games with the club.
Now, Claypool gets a much-needed fresh start on a prolific Miami team that has the No. 1 scoring offense (averaging 36.2 points per game) and the league’s best receiving duo in Hill and Jaylen Waddle. If there’s a place for Claypool to regain the quality form he showed in Pittsburgh, it’s right here in South Beach.
