Tyrann Mathieu was animated on and off the field Sunday.
The veteran defensive back had an on-field outburst when the Kansas City Chiefs allowed the Washington Football Team to convert on third-and-16 late in the first half, and again on the sideline when they busted a coverage to allow Washington’s only touchdown of the game.
After the game, he went off on a member of the media after Sports Illustrated writer Joshua Brisco tweeted: “I’m probably gonna get tweeted at for this, but if you’re going to be screaming at the sidelines when stuff breaks down, you should use your arms to complete a sack on an untouched blitz instead of going for the hit stick.”
Brisco was referring to Mathieu’s reaction to a blown coverage that resulted in a 39-yard touchdown catch for Washington.
Mathieu later responded in a since-deleted tweet: “Fractured my thumb. Couldn’t even use my right arm. That’s why I lunged with my shoulder. Next time at me, imma big boy. I expect you to act the same. Cry baby a*.”

Brisco replied with another tweet when he wrote: “step 1. find mild critique of one play, step 2. call person a baby, step 3. delete tweet, step 4. ???, step 5. profit.”
Sunday was the first time the Chiefs allowed fewer than 29 points all season. The team shut out Washington in the second half.
Asked whether he was upset by the defensive call or the Chiefs’ effort on the play, Mathieu added: “It was third-and-long. It doesn’t matter what play the coach calls. As players you have to execute. Obviously you have to have formation recognition. You just need to [have a] sense of urgency. I just think the whole defense took [the play] off. Coach is going to call the game and as players we have to make it right.”
