Two Rhode Island men have been charged for their roles in a brawl that led to the tragic death of Dale Mooney, a 53-year-old New England Patriots fan three months ago.
Per Mark Osborne and Jason Volack of ABC News, 39-year-old Justin Mitchel and 59-year-old John Vieira have both been charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery from the fight with Mooney during the Patriots-Miami Dolphins game at Gillette Stadium on Sep. 17.
Via Osborne and Volack, the district attorney stated that a medical examiner conducted a review and determined Mooney’s manner of death as a homicide:
“While Mooney’s death initially “did not suggest traumatic injury” it did “identify a medical issue,” the district attorney’s office said. Upon a recent review by the medical examiner, the death was ruled as “probable cardiac dysrhythmia in a person with severe hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease during a physical altercation” and the manner of death was ruled to be a homicide, according to the district attorney.”
Mooney and his wife had two children together. The longtime Patriots fan was a season ticket holder for three decades. Following his tragic passing, a GoFundMe page was set up to provide donations for the Mooney family.
The report from ABC News added that Vieira and Mitchell currently have arraignments set for Jan. 19 and Jan. 26, respectively.
