At the end of last season, Sean McVay was in demand by networks looking to strengthen their NFL broadcasting lineup. However, the 36-year-old decided to turn them all down to remain head coach of the Los Angeles Rams.
Now, that the Rams seem to be trending downwards with no real clear end to it in sight, networks are reportedly trying again to obtain McVay’s services.
According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, the NFL’s TV partners are reportedly looking at McVay in either a game or studio analyst role starting in the 2023 season.
“The (Rams) just had an abysmal year. I don’t know how optimistic that team is about the future. It could be an ominous situation,” a source said, per McCarthy. “I would expect networks to call (McVay) and gauge his interest again. I’m sure some already have.”
Rumors of him possibly retiring came shortly after the Rams won the Super Bowl. McVay is super young, insanely rich, and already won a Super Bowl. He may not want to deal with the grind of an NFL season any longer and networks are hoping that may be the case after this 2022 campaign comes to an end.
The current Rams squad is heading into Week 18. McVay has plenty of time to think about his future without having to deal with the playoffs.
