Tua Tagovailoa might not be going into the 2023 NFL season the same weight he left in 2022.
The quarterback appears to have put on some significant mass this offseason, with a photo from the Miami Dolphins OTAs popping up on Wednesday showing him looking a lot bigger than the Tua we’ve become used to.

The Dolphins’ official website lists the quarterback at 217 pounds but might have to revisit that heading into next season as that simply can’t be the case anymore.
This is all by design, though. After having his personal campaign end early in 2022 as he suffered two concussions, the QB has taken some steps to ensure he will have a safer season.
Tua considered retiring after his bad luck with head injuries last season but has instead taken jiu-jitsu lessons so he could learn to avoid getting hurt when he falls. And he has also packed on some muscle to help with that.

The 25-year-old is one of the smaller signal-callers in the NFL, so he is likely to benefit from putting on some extra weight as he will be able to absorb hits better. He’s also expected to be stronger, which will be great for his passing.
After having a breakout season in 2022, Tua will be one of the quarterbacks to watch next season. That will be easier to do since there’s a bit more of him to look at now.
