It appears all that work Tua Tagovailoa put into jiu-jitsu training is paying off.
The Miami Dolphins quarterback struggled with concussions last season, having taken some hard hits leading to head injuries that ruled him out of multiple games and left him contemplating retirement.
Instead, the QB got himself into a program that taught him how to absorb hits and fall without hurting himself.
There’s no telling how far the Fins would have gotten with their first-choice signal-caller available all season, especially given how effective he was when he was available. Should his availability improve in 2023, the team should be in a position to win the AFC East.
From the looks of things, Tua is going to be just fine.
Playing against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Miami’s final preseason game on the weekend, he took a hit from pass rusher Josh Allen after making a fake toss. He rolled over and jumped right back up, with his shoulder hitting the ground instead of his head.
