Stephen A Smith wants somebody to lose their job.
Tua Tagovailoa suffered a brutal concussion on Thursday, but he never should have been playing in that game at all after what happened to him just four days before against the Buffalo Bills.
During Friday morning’s episode of First Take, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith exploded when he said “somebody needs to be fired” within the Miami organization.
“Somebody needs to be fired. Now I don’t know who, but somebody’s got to go,” Smith said. “… I’m looking at Mike McDaniel the coach like ‘What the hell are you thinking?’”
In Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, the young Miami Dolphins quarterback took a hit that certainly seemed to cause a traumatic brain injury. However, he would leave the game and soon return to lead his team to victory.
The official word from the Dolphins and the NFL that day was that Tagovailoa had actually suffered a back injury.

Just four days later, Tagovailoa returned to play in a highly anticipated Thursday Night Football matchup with the Bengals. In the first half of the game Thursday, Tagovailoa’s head once again slammed into the turf, but this time, there was no doubt that he suffered a head injury as he laid motionless on the ground for an extended period of time. He was eventually stretchered off the field and taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
After the game, the Dolphins said that Tagovailoa would be discharged from the hospital and fly home with the team.
The incident leaves numerous questions that the NFL and the Dolphins must answer in the coming days. If it was up to Smith, somebody would be getting the pink slip.
