With the 49ers announcing that Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t expected to return next season, San Francisco will likely enter their 2023 campaign with Trey lance back at the starting position just as he was before his injury last year.
The former No. 3 overall pick is a duel-threat signal caller that displayed flashes early in his NFL career, but he got cut down after he suffered a season-ending leg injury just two games into this season.
One negative that can be said about him is his passing accuracy is being dreadful through his first eight NFL appearances. As he continues to work himself back into 100%, Lance has taken any reworking of his throwing motion off the table.
“Asked by a reporter if he would spend the coming months improving his throwing motion, Lance said he would not, focusing on other, unnamed parts of his game. “I feel like I’m in a really good spot,” said Lance.
Lance completed 54.9 percent of his passes in eight career appearances for 797 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
For the 49ers, it’s nice to have a good problem as they got to see what they had in ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ Brock Purdy before he suffered an injury in the NFC Championship Game. Purdy suffered a full tear of his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) and faces a long recovery, but the “initial hope” is that he can avoid Tommy John surgery to be ready for training camp.
