Jimmy Garoppolo is still a member of the San Francisco 49ers, and although he’s at training camp, he is not practicing with the team.
His replacement, Trey Lance, is getting some unwanted attention today after a rough go at practice.
49ers insider Matt Barrows of The Athletic described Wednesday’s practice as “another tough day” for the second-year quarterback. He added that Lance went 3-of-9 in team situations before throwing two TDs in the RedZone to end practice.
Lance’s backup Nate Sudfeld was a perfect 8-for-8.
According to Yahoo, Lance unleashed a deep throw down the right sideline that landed nowhere close to the nearest receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. The next snap saw a pass intended for Deebo Samuel landing well behind him.
Meanwhile, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area shared a video of Jimmy Garoppolo throwing at the 49ers’ practice facility and he looked pretty good as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery.

Maiocco mentioned the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks as potential suitors for Garoppolo.
The 49ers have turned the page to Lance, while Garoppolo still reports to the team’s training complex daily to take part in a throwing routine and physical therapy. Garoppolo threw for 3,810 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in ’21 during his 15 games played.
