San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance has set tongues wagging on the back of a social media post coinciding with the Tennessee Titans hiring Ran Carthon as their new general manager.
Carthon is a former director of player personnel for the Niners.
Following the Titans’ announcement, Lance took to Instagram to post a story featuring a photo of Carthon. On its own, the photo would have likely come off as congratulatory, but the QB added three fingers-crossed emojis to the bottom.
This could suggest that Lance is hoping Carthon engineers a trade that brings him to Tennessee. Of course, it’s very likely that’s not what he meant at all, but he does have reasons to want out of San Francisco.
The 49ers went all out to get the former Bisons star, giving three first-round picks and a third-round pick up to get him, yet it still seems like he has never been fully accepted.
The team kept Jimmy Garoppolo around, which was telling enough. And now there’s breakout star Brock Purdy, who has the NFL community raving in a way they never did for Lance.
