Just a few years ago, Trey Lance was expected to be the missing piece to San Francisco’s Super Bowl puzzle when the team took him 3rd overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Fast forward just over two years later, and the former North Dakota State quarterback is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys.
It’s been a crazy turn of events, but the Niners decided it was time to move on when Lance lost out on the backup QB job to Sam Darnold. And once they put the 23-year-old dual-threat signal-caller on the trade block, the Dallas Cowboys decided to swoop in.
On Friday, they sent a fourth-round pick to the Niners for Lance.
Now with a new team, Trey Lance put on his Cowboys gear for the first time when he suited up for practice today. And it was then that the world found out he would be wearing the number 15 in Big D.

At the moment, Lance is listed as the third-string quarterback behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush. He’s not expected to threaten Prescott for the starting job, although Dak’s recent comments seem to suggest otherwise.
