Trey Lance is having a terrible offseason, that is if you believe the reports which came out a few days ago claiming the quarterback has been struggling in training.
Several sources reported last week that the former No. 3 overall pick was having a difficult time in training camp with the San Francisco 49ers.
It was noted that the QB “really struggled” taking reps behind Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold as he completed just one of the four pass attempts he took and missed two “gimmies.”
He had the fewest pass attempts of the Niners’ three QBs and the video right below does give credence to the claims.
Still, it’s only training camp.

But there is some concern given the fact that Lance was drafted as high as he was and was tipped to be his team’s franchise quarterback.
49ers GM John Lynch spoke to reporters this week and has some positive things to say about the under-fire QB. Other reports did note that, while Lance had a good day throwing the ball on Monday, he didn’t do enough to separate himself from the other signal-callers.
“He’s throwing the football a lot better,” Lynch said. “His base is better. Some of his mechanics are better. Those things are showing up on the field. So I’m not just proud of him for his attitude, leadership, and resiliency. I’m proud of what I’m seeing out there.”
That Purdy has been selected as the main man moving forward shows where the team ranks Lance.
In Purdy, they have a player who went undefeated in the regular season. And who knows how things would have turned out in the NFC Championship Game had he not gotten injured early on?
With Darnold also around now, it is possible that Lance gets knocked down to the third option for the Niners.
