The Cincinnati Bengals have made a significant cut this Tuesday as it’s been reported that veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian has been released by the team months after being signed.
NFL reporter Ari Meirov is reporting that Siemian is set to exit the roster, leaving only Joe Burrow and Jake Browning in the QB room and essentially ending the battle for the backup job.
This move comes on the back of the 31-year-old’s struggles in the Bengals’ last preseason game. Siemian completed 14-of-23 passes for 133 yards and an interception. Browning, on the other hand, completed all six of his attempts, passing for 42 yards and one touchdown.
It appears that Joe Burrow could be fit enough to start the season given that the Bengals are keen on keeping a single backup around.
Siemian, who won the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 2015, will hope to find himself on another roster heading into the 2023 season.
A seventh-round pick out of Northwestern, he began his pro career in Denver during said year before going on to join the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, and Chicago Bears. The Bengals signed him to a one-year deal in May.
