On a night that had all the makings of a coronation for the AFC’s new No. 1 seed, the scene quickly turned somber as Jacksonville not only lost their star WR on the first play but star quarterback Trevor Lawrence would go down with a lower leg injury.
Lawrence, who had thrown for 258 yards and two touchdowns before the injury, was stepped on by Jacksonville offensive lineman Walker Little as he dropped back to make a pass with the score tied at 28-28. The 24-year-old bent backward awkwardly while on the ground and could be seen in pain afterward.
He attempted to make his way off the field under his own power but collapsed to the turf before slamming his fists and helmet into the ground in apparent frustration.
He was helped towards the sideline by two athletic trainers and then limped to the locker room.
Following the scary injury, Lawrence’s wife, Marissa, took to her Instagram story and reposted all of the praying messages she has received since his injury.
“Really overwhelmed by people’s kindness and love. Just wanted to share something positive and thank everyone truly for your prayers and support. Grateful to be surrounded by so many amazing people,” she said in a comment on her Instagram story.

Marissa, who has been married to Lawrence since April 2021, was in attendance for Monday’s primetime game at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville.
Backup quarterback C.J. Beathard would enter the game as he completed 9 of 10 passes for 63 yards.
Lawrence, the first-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has not missed a game due to injury throughout his three-year career.
Through 12 games this season, Lawrence has thrown for 3,004 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, while adding four rushing scores.
Despite the loss, the Jags still sit atop the AFC South at 8-4 and are the fourth seed in the conference’s playoff race.
