The Jaguars faced unexpectedly steep competition from the Bengals on Monday night as quarterback Jake Browning had a field day with Jacksonville’s defense.
They may have lost the game but suffered something far worse with Trevor Lawrence exiting in the fourth quarter after suffering a left ankle injury. A visibly frustrated Lawrence required the help of two trainers to reach the locker room.
He slammed his helmet to the turf immediately after the injury and was helped off the field by athletic trainers into the Jacksonville locker room. Upon replay, it was shown that left tackle Walker Little inadvertently stepped on Lawrence’s right ankle when he was pushed back into his quarterback.
Following his terrible injury, it was hard for fans to not make the obvious joke in the room as we are still fresh off what happened in the college football Playoff selection committee that snubbed Florida State because of the season-ending injury to Jordan Travis.

Lawrence is set to undergo an MRI on Tuesday. The initial diagnosis is an ankle sprain.
Former 49ers reserve C.J. Beathard, who’s been the Jaguars’ backup QB since 2021, replaced Lawrence under center for the remainder of the contest, going 9 of 10 for 63 yards but falling to Browning and the Bengals, 34-31, in overtime.
Lawrence completed 22 of 29 passes for 258 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers before leaving Monday’s game.
The Jaguars entered Monday at 8-3 with a chance to take control of the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a win. Instead, they fell to 8-4, a game behind the 9-3 Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens.
