Jacksonville Jaguars star quarterback Trevor Lawrence offered clarification as to why he wasn’t carted off after suffering an ankle injury in Monday night’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Lawrence was injured midway through the fourth quarter of the Jaguars-Bengals contest and had to be helped off the field. Many NFL fans blasted the Jaguars for not bringing the medical cart out for their franchise player while cameras showed Lawrence (clearly in a lot of pain) trying to make his way to the locker room.
But while speaking to the media on Wednesday, Lawrence stated that he wasn’t carted off simply because he didn’t want to be. The 2021 first overall pick admitted that he didn’t know there were cameras in the tunnel, and that it was “dumb” of him to pass up on the medical cart.
It was subsequently announced that Lawrence suffered a high ankle sprain, which obviously isn’t the worst-case scenario for the AFC South leaders. There’s a slim chance that he’ll suit up in Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, though it feels like a long shot with the Jaguars on a short week and needing to prioritize their QB’s long-term health.
The 24-year-old Lawrence is having another stellar season in Jacksonville, completing 67.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,004 yards and 14 touchdowns against seven interceptions to go along with 248 rushing yards and four rushing scores.
